Tumblr for Photographers

I have a Tumblr photoblog for some time now: Far Away Glances...

I would like to talk about my experience in the most objective way, so I decided to make a list of pros and cons. Here they are:

Pros:

1. It's easy to post. - if you use Chrome, you can download a "Post to Tumblr" extension that allows you to post anything, specially pictures, literally in a question of seconds. What I do is to open the page of the work I want to post there here in FAA and use the extension button to have it posted to my Tumblr blog. It automatically links to the page and you can easily attach tags to it.

2. Lots of templates. - There are really dozens of beautiful templates on Tumblr and many can be used to create nice photoblogs. I never needed a template which was not free, as the free ones are good enough.

3. You can use with Disqus. - Disqus is a comments management web application that can be easily incorporate to virtually all Tumblr blogs. It centralizes comments, reactions on social networks and trackbacks in a very easy and convenient way to handle.

4. It's a social site. - You can follow people and people can follow you. This is great for visibility.

Cons:

1. The audience. - The big majority of Tumblr users are teenagers. It's not easy to contact adult photographers there.

2. No-flexibility. - Once you create your main blog, you cannot change the name. You can create others, but the name you chose for your first blog is your username forever. That can be annoying if you change your photoblog as there is no way to carry your followers with you. Also, if you decide to follow people, the name that will appear on their dashboards is your first username and cannot be changed.

Although it seems that ir has more pros than cons, the cons are very restrictive. I am pleased with the functionality, but I'm not very pleased with the visibility results. I'm actually thought many times about deleting my account and starting again. Does anyone have a Tumblr experience and is willing to share?
